Interviews

Hi all!!

I hope you had a great 4th of July weekend, but now its time to get back in the grind of summer classes, work, or whatever you may be doing this summer. I wanted to change some things up a little bit and help anyone if they have a job interview coming up or are wanting to get a job but may be nervous for interviews! Here are a few steps to take that will more than likely get you the job you want or need at this time!

1. When you turn your application in, call the Employer immediately after you have sent one in and keep calling until you get an interview. If they don’t see persistence before you have an interview, they will not bring you in!!

2. Before you go to your interview have your Resume, Cover Letter for the job, & your availability printed off and in a Manila folder to hand to them before they start asking you questions. Even if you had already submitted them online, you never know if you’re going to get interviewed by just one person or multiple so its good to have extra copies!! Also, bring a pen and notebook to take notes on the position.

3. Always show up early to your interview, whether it’s 15 minutes or 30 because that will show the Employer that you are responsible and are ready! Remember, dress to impress!! Suit and Tie for men and a business suit for women (no matter the job, unless the application you are filling out specifically says what attire you should wear).

4. When you walk in, walk in with confidence and let the front desk know who you are and what you’re there for!

5. Sit patiently and try not too look at your phone (I know thats a hard one).

6. When they introduce themselves and already know your name, say Hi, I’m *your name* anyway and say thank you for meeting with you today! They will love that and it will show you have class and are respectful of their time.

7. Be confident with who you are the whole time and reassure them that you can & will do your job well and that you will provide their company with the help they need. You will basically be their backbone and they want to know that they can rely on you to do your job.

8. Have a great work ethic and always be prepared to do your job plus someone else’s. Let them know you will help other’s if they are struggling! Provide examples as to what you would do if you have an upset customer and reassure them the policies.

9. Be positive, don’t mope because I can assure you.... they won’t hire you if you have a bad attitude or don’t work when you give them availability when you can work and don’t show up... BIG RED FLAG.

10. Talk about your past experiences with jobs, if you’ve had any, and what you liked about them so you can say what you expect in this new job. Its crucial you talk about how this job can prepare you for your future and you want/need the experience for your future plans.

11. After they have asked you questions regarding yourself and the job position, ask them these questions:
- What do you want to see in your new employee that you don’t have already?
- Ask about pay (LAST, do not ask this first)
- anything that you want to know about the business you could be working for, they want to see you are interested in the company, maybe benefits as well but benefits are benefits!

12. Most importantly, be yourself. Work hard. Be confident. Strive to do your job well and help others if they are struggling! Don’t be cocky.... Be confident (there is a difference).

After the interview is over, shake hands and thank them for your time and that you hope to hear from them soon. Give them two days to talk it over and then call them if they don’t call you to see how the process is going and that you can’t wait to hear back. They want to see you are consistent and that you are really focused on this job. They may really like you, but if you don’t call them they will change their mind about you. This also works for when you turn your application in, call them immediately after you have sent one in and keep calling until you get an interview. If they don’t see persistence before you have an interview, they will not bring you in!!

I hope this helps many of you and I would love to help you with your resume and cover letter!! I had an interview at a bank yesterday and I just got the call that I got the job so I promise this is credible and I will help you get the job you want!!
